They’ve been at the recent epicentre of a flood of Australian music news – most recently signing with Universal Music Publishing, going on a national tour under Select Music, and wooing crowds with their recent support slot with Gang of Youths as well as their contribution to BIGSOUND in Brisbane.
With ‘Close My Eyes’ most likely still ringing in your ears from constant circulation over national radio, their recently released EP ‘Another Life’ has seen several venues on their national tour sell out, enthusiastic reviews from the TheMusic and APHRA adding to the growing conviction that Sydney has produced yet another premier strain of dreamy synth-laden pop that Australia can expect big things from in future.
The band was nice enough to share their industry tips with us for this weeks Savvy Seven:
1: The best live music venues in my area are… Brighton Up Bar, Newtown Social Club, GoodGod Smallclub.
2. The music scene in my hometown is… colourful and diverse.
3. My top business tip for new artists is… try to create something that isn’t already mass produced.
3a. So don’t do it yourself? The more you can do yourself, the more power to you. However there are some insanely talented producers out there and collaboration can often add dimensions to your music you never thought possible.
4. In my opinion, the most important issue facing the music industry is…I’m no industry expert but it does feel like there are limited avenues in Australia for emerging artists to get exposure. There is so much raw, undiscovered talent out there in so many genres and it’s a shame to see so much of it stay buried.
5. When on the road, my favourite pitstops are… The bakery with all the lizards near Byron Bay.
6. My biggest career mistake has been… not backing myself 100% when it comes to releasing music out in the world.
7. My best general tip for emerging artists is… stay true to your identity.
